Aghhhh… this down-sizing just got serious!!!!
Yesterday, we woke to another day.
Our conversation over breakfast…
Tess – How are you feeling?
Martin – Excited, and anxious…
Tess – Anxious?
Martin – Lots of moving parts?
Tess – I get that.
Martin – How are you feeling?
Tess – Excited, jumping out of my skin…
What are we excited and anxious about, you ask.
Yesterday Martin and I went sailing on a Tayanna 47 ft yacht called Saboteur. Nothing to be scared about that…

What is scary is… we had put a deposit on her a couple of weeks prior and yesterday was her sea-trail. What this means is we went out with the current owner and broker and put Saboteur through her paces. Admittedly there was not a lot of wind, but we had fun with her. Asked a million questions and crawled over every inch of her. Why I wore a white T-shirt I have no idea.
Post sea-trial we had a choice then to say yes she is ours, let’s make this unconditional or walk away. We signed on the dotted line… and the sale is now unconditional. We take possession of her on the 10th October. We will own her this time next week.
Wow… we did it. Happy, calm is this real… OMG it is… down-sizing just got serious…
We had lunch…
Post lunch we visited her previous owners who we had tracked down to ask lots of questions about her and living aboard. They are a lovely couple who lived on her for 17 years. Yes, seventeen years… And ironically, they saw us sail her out of the bay for the sea-trails. They have been wonderful to talk to and extremely helpful. They have truly set Saboteur up as a proper live-aboard, complete with washing machine. Yes I know!!! No dragging washing to a laundromat on the Marina… No coins required 😊
We will be pulling her out of the water and doing some work on her. Hoping to level-up down-sizing and be back on the water in December.
We had been talking about “Grey-nomading” on the water when we retire. And have asked ourselves why wait to go live-aboard. We can’t think of one good reason to wait… So, next year some time, after some serious down-sizing, we will move on to her. And yes, we will be moving the dogs and the cat on board with us…
Something to ponder…
We often get asked… well Martin in particular, “Aren’t you getting too old for that?” To which he usually replies, “Yeh, you’re are right, I should wait until I am a little younger.”
What are you waiting for that you would love to do now?
